Dental Implant Healing Timeline: What to Expect

People don't seem to take their oral hygiene seriously enough. According to studies, more than 25% of people will lose all teeth before age 75. Gum disease is the #1 cause of tooth loss in adults. For those where tooth loss is inevitable, dental implants are the only option for an attractive smile. 24 Hours After: You may feel slight pain. Bite down on gauze to ensure blood clot forms. Bleeding should stop within 2 hours. Take prescription medication as instructed, ice the area. 3 Days After: Pain and swelling typically peak at 2 days then subside. If bleeding after 3 days, contact your dentist. Continue soft foods and avoid strenuous exercise and brushing the implant site. 7 Days After: Start eating soft and semi-solid foods like rice, fries, noodles. Avoid crunchy/hard foods for at least a week. Moderate exercise OK but heavy workouts may damage implant site. 2 Weeks After: Stitches removed, follow-up with Dr. Wallrich. Initial healing complete but implant continues healing for 6 months until it bonds with bone completely.
